Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said strengthening the economy’s global competitiveness would ultimately bolster confidence in the yen, defending her fiscal policies against concerns that planned tax cuts could undermine efforts to support the currency.
“关于我们积极且负责任的财政政策,我们相信加强日本经济的全球竞争力最终会维持对日元的信任。这意味着我们正在采取一致的政策取向,”她在议会会议上说道。
“With regards to our proactive and responsible fiscal policy, we believe that strengthening the Japanese economy’s global competitiveness will ultimately lead to maintaining trust in the yen. This means that we are taking a consistent policy approach,” she said at a parliamentary session.

“I will decline to comment on how we analyze currency moves,” she added on Friday when asked whether the government had considered the impact of her fiscal policy on the currency and on trade relations with the US. “We will continue to watch yen and price moves as well as their impacts, and take action as necessary.”
